The Jemmapes font was built for and with disabled people. The Ateliers Jemmapes is near Daumesnil in Paris, this workplace needed a new signage. To be able to represent and to satisfy the users, we couldn't lead an ordinary design process, so we decided with Margot Gaillard, to hold several workshops
and see how disabled people considered writting letters and type. The different shapes we find in the Jemmapes font is the shapes the workers built, our goal was to guide them and to digitise their letterforms into a font. Today the project is being built, and the workers have their own shapes used as signage for their workplace.
