Léon Sam Hugues ABOUT CARVING & CALLIGRAPHY BOOK & GRAPHIC DESIGN TYPEFACES

This is Dagobert, a font inspired by 6th century merovingian calligraphy.
Studying merovingian script by hand helped me understand how the letterforms were built and how they all worked together as one same family, this study led me to this new typeface, dagobert. Dagobert is my interpretation of this middle age script.(With a slight touch of blackletter.) The round shapes combined with sharp edges give a whole new contrast and quite an attitude.
Dagobert is not a plain digitized version of this script, it has been thought for screen and print uses, for titling and short texts. Many ligatures and alternates allows the font to keep a certain depth and movement.
